The Gospel of Jesus Christ
The gospel is the good news that Jesus Christ—God manifest in the flesh—died for our sins, was buried, and rose again the third day. Salvation is the gift of God, received by grace through faith in Him.
Why We Need Salvation
Every person has sinned against God. “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;” (Romans 3:23). Sin is not merely a collection of mistakes; it is our failure to meet God’s righteous standard and our rebellion against Him. Its wages are death (Romans 6:23), and no amount of good works, religion, or changed behavior can remove our guilt. Left to ourselves, we stand condemned and need a Saviour.
Who Jesus Christ Is
The One who came to save us is not merely a teacher, prophet, or example. Scripture declares, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God” (John 1:1). The Word was made flesh and dwelt among us (John 1:14). Jesus Christ is God manifest in the flesh (1 Timothy 3:16). He knew no sin (2 Corinthians 5:21) and alone could do for us what no sinner could do for himself.
What Christ Did for Us
Jesus Christ suffered in the place of sinners, “the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God” (1 Peter 3:18). Scripture says, “Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:” (1 Corinthians 15:3–4). He “bare our sins in his own body on the tree” (1 Peter 2:24), and through His blood we have redemption and forgiveness (Ephesians 1:7). Salvation rests not in what we do for God, but in the finished work of Christ.
How to Be Saved
Salvation is God’s gift and is received by faith. When the keeper of the prison asked, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” the answer was, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved” (Acts 16:30–31). “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast” (Ephesians 2:8–9). Do not rely on your own goodness, religion, or works; believe on Jesus Christ—who He is and what He has done for you. Jesus said that the one who believes “hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life” (John 5:24).
Saved and Secure in Christ
God does not give temporary life. Jesus said of those who believe, “I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand” (John 10:28). After believing, we are “sealed with that holy Spirit of promise” (Ephesians 1:13) and “kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation” (1 Peter 1:5). Our security rests in God’s promise and power, not in our ability to keep ourselves saved. Good works have an important place in the Christian life, for believers are “created in Christ Jesus unto good works” (Ephesians 2:10), but those works are the purpose and fruit of salvation—not its price.
Will You Believe on Him?
You do not need to make yourself worthy or clean up your life before coming to Christ. Salvation is received by believing on Him. Jesus said, “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life” (John 6:47). If you have believed on Jesus Christ, rest in God’s promise.
